Graduating

The Master’s Degree Thesis is preferably the result of an individual work, or at most developed by two candidates. It consists of a dissertation presented before a committee appointed by the Study Programme, describing an original work developed by the candidate and related to one of the many fields of application of the landscape architect’s skills.

The thesis topic must be agreed upon with a faculty member who assumes the role of thesis supervisor.

Procedures for thesis enrolment and deadlines

The mandatory deliverables required for the Master’s thesis are:

  • Design drawings: 10 to 12 sheets, in A1 format, with exceptions for A0 sheets to be agreed with the supervisor.
  • The thesis report, prepared and printed in A4 format, in portrait or landscape orientation, must also include all design drawings.
    Minimum text length: 100,000 characters, including spaces.

In the case of theses authored by two candidates, the number of deliverables and the allocation of each candidate’s contribution will be agreed upon with the supervisor.

At the students’ discretion, additional supporting materials may be submitted, such as physical models or video presentations.

Compilation-based theses are permitted, but only if previously approved by the Teaching Committee of the Master’s Degree Programme (CdLM), following justification provided by the supervisor. For this type of thesis, the report, prepared and printed in A4 format (portrait or landscape), must have a minimum length of 200,000 characters including spaces and must include a presentation in PowerPoint or PDF format.

The final grade assessment is based on the following criteria:

  • the weighted average grade, expressed in hundredths, of the marks obtained in individual examinations;
  • the evaluation of the final examination (relating both to the overall preparation demonstrated during the defence and to the quality of the project work and its presentation), expressed on a scale from 0 to 8 points.
